Literary Costumes!
Back
Yesterday, students and staff at Hertswood fully embraced the spirit of reading with an array of fantastic costumes for World Book Day 2026. This annual celebration of authors and illustrators aims to encourage a lifelong love of books among children and young people, and our school community certainly rose to the occasion.
Costume groups were out in force, featuring characters from Harry Potter, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Matilda, The Cat in the Hat, and even a pack of (almost) 101 Dalmatians. Literacy Lead, Miss Ogle, noted that the day was filled with smiles and positive conversations about literature, praising the "A* for effort" shown by everyone involved. We hope the day has inspired even more students to pick up a new book this week.
Students voted Maleficent as the winning staff costume, followed closely by William Shakespeare and Dobby the House Elf. The winning Year 7 student costume is set to be announced in their assembly next week. Well done to everyone who took part!
