Year 8 Options

From the beginning of Year 9, students will be specialising in their arts and design technology lessons. Students will continue to have four hours per week focused on arts and design technology, however they will select two subjects from the list below to concentrate on.

The subjects students can choose from are:

Art
Art Textiles
Drama
Food Technology
Photography
Music
Product Design (Woods/Plastics or Fabrics)

Once students have chosen their subjects, they will study both for two hours per week during Year 9. At the end of Year 9, they will be able to either continue these subjects or choose from other subjects outside this group. If a student chooses not to follow a subject at this time they will not be able to pick it up again at the end of Year 9, therefore students should consider carefully the subjects they wish to follow.

In order to help students make these choices we have compiled documents and presentations for each subject, available below.

Students will make their choices using an online form made available to students on Monday 16th June. The deadline for choices will be Friday 20th June. If, after looking at the online resources, students or parents wish to, they can request an online meeting with a member of staff to discuss choices by emailing admin@hertswoodacademy.org.

In the meantime, students can ask questions about subjects by speaking to or emailing relevant subject teachers, or by speaking to their Head or Deputy Head of Learning.
