Forget architects, Hertswood already has its own in-house design talent! Ben (Year 11) impressed staff during his work experience week at the end of last year. Motivated by investments in the Academy's buildings, Ben dedicated part of his work experience period to developing an innovative design for a potential future new Sixth Form building.

He started his project with research into the school's history, which he used to inform his design concepts. He also created mood boards and product boards to explore different aesthetic and functional possibilities. After carefully considering both interior and exterior design elements, and producing numerous sketches, Ben generated a detailed 3D model of his proposed building.

To showcase his vision, Ben compiled a professional presentation which he delivered to Headteacher, Mr Gillett, and Head of Creative Studies, Mrs Robertson.

Mrs Robertson praised Ben's efforts, saying: 'Ben's commitment to this project and the creative skills he developed along the way are truly commendable.'

Ben's work is a testament to the valuable opportunities that work experience placements can provide for students.
