The Art Department is proud to announce that the work of Hertswood alumni, Aimee King, has been selected for display at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Arts for their 2024 Young Artists Show. Thousands of schools participated and were judged by a panel of artists, art professionals and Royal Academicians who were 'overwhelmed by the insight, imagination and inspiration' in the work submitted.

Aimee's double portrait, Sean by Candlelight, painted while she was in Year 13, was selected for display in both the online and on-site exhibitions. Only 300 students out of the 21,000 applicants were successfully selected, so it is an extraordinary achievement.

“Throughout her Hertswood journey, Aimee consistently demonstrated a command of the formal elements in Art, but it was during her A Level studies that she showed her extraordinary talent for oil painting. Her mastery of the medium is evident in every piece, showcasing a remarkable eye for realism, capturing intricate details and evoking a sense of lifelike presence. Her acceptance into the Young Artists Show is a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication and talent, and serves as a powerful motivation for other students to pursue their passions and strive for excellence. We are incredibly proud of Aimee and look forward to seeing her future accomplishments.” -Beatrice Adamson, Teacher of Art

The Young Artists Show is free and open to the public until the 11th August.  Alternatively, you can view the online exhibition on the RA website. You can also vote for "Sean by Candlelight" by Aimee King in the People's Choice Award.
