Butterflies Take Flight

Last Thursday was a special day at Hertswood. After a few weeks of watching and learning about their lifecycle, our Painted Lady butterflies were ready for their big adventure. We've seen them transform from tiny caterpillars munching on leaves to beautiful creatures with vibrant wings.

It was a bittersweet goodbye, but we know these butterflies have important work to do in our fields and beyond. A big thank you to our students for helping to hang their enclosure, feed them along the way and finally release them into the wild.
